Synergy Live #3 – Low Back Pain

Dr. Kyle Knox, DC CCSP – Westlake Village CA. Low Back Pain SYNERGY LIVE #3 – LOW BACK PAIN Low back pain is by far one of the most common ailments seen in a Chiropractic clinic.  When looking at where this pain comes from, there can be a lot of contributing factors.  The joints in the lumbar or low back can become subluxated (stuck) allowing inflammation to set in and in response the lower back muscles spasm and become painful.   The disks in the low back can become herniated or bulge, causing irritation to the associated nerves.  In this case low back pain can present as radiating pain down the legs, localized severe burning pain, muscle weakness, numbness in the legs, and in severe cases can disturb the bladder/bowel function.  There are also rare cases of low back tumors, or growths that can produce pain in the low back.  These are relating factors of why low back pain can be present, but we have found that this is just a small or narrowed look at a bigger picture.  What we have found with low back pain is the true source of pain comes from a break down in structure.  The muscles of posture or true core muscles are designed to carry the weight of the body and take load off the structure of our spine.  When there is a break down in function or posture, the muscles stop supporting the low back and all the load of the body is put on the structure/spine.  How many of you have heard of osteoarthritis or general spine arthritis? When looking at...

Holiday Stress – Prepare and Enjoy The Season

By: Dr. Kyle Knox, DC CCSP.  Chiropractor in Westlake Village CA – Holiday Stress Every year the holidays are an amazing time to spend with family and friends.  It’s only natural with all the shopping and preparing, stress has a way of creeping into the situation.  If we accept that stress is coming and prepare for it, the season is much more enjoyable and we have less battle wounds going into the new year (IE extra weight, back pain, headaches).  Am I talking about ignoring grandma’s fudge, fun nights with friends, aunt Ester’s marshmallow surprise, or the extra few latte’s that comfort your morning?  I know for me it’s the important holiday pleasures that keep me excited about the season.  What we are talking about is moderation, continuing your exercise, and allowing time for stress relief. Moderation is a bit of a problem in the USA, but it seems to be ignored even more during the holidays.  Again this doesn’t mean we have to avoid family functions, but on the days after and before the big feasts, pay attention to portions and follow some sort of nutritional guidance.  If you do not have a nutritionist with basic guidelines for a balanced day, click here.  As touched on in this post, we are not running a race when it comes to diet and health.  Every day which leads to a healthier you is a victory.  Pat yourself on the back with every good day while running through the crossfire of pumpkin pie, rare roast beast, and the occasional half cap latte with extra foam. Exercise is essential to anyone looking...
